This week, we’re packing our bags for Papakōlea Green Sand Beach, one of the rarest beaches on Earth! Nestled on Hawaii’s Big Island, this breathtaking beach gets its emerald-green sand from olivine crystals, a mineral formed by volcanic activity. It’s one of only four green sand beaches in the world!
Getting there is an adventure in itself—a scenic 2.5-mile hike (or a thrilling 4x4 ride) takes you through rugged coastlines before revealing the striking green shoreline against the deep blue Pacific. It’s the perfect off-the-beaten-path destination for explorers looking for something truly unique.
