About Us

Dear Traveler,

We create backpacks inspired by countries all over the world! But it is more than just a backpack; it connects diverse cultures and creates change.

We allocate half of the profits from each tote to fund an interest-free microloan to a farmer or small business owner in a developing country. Why? Because these communities don't have access to conventional financing or banks. These microloans help them on their path to achieving their dreams and uplifting their communities.

By choosing to carry Taaluma, you're inspiring adventure, celebrating cultures, and helping communities - one tote at a time.

Origin Story

How It Works

Taaluma means

culture in Swahili — and that’s exactly what we’re all about. Our backpacks are a reminder that there’s an incredible world out there, full of vibrant cultures, amazing people, and breathtaking places — all connected through the simple idea of a backpack.

Wondering about that funny-looking bird? That’s the grey-crowned crane — the national bird of Uganda, where the idea for Taaluma was born.
